Will's Christmas Day 277 mile lockdown cycle challenge

Posted: 08-12-2020

Your fundraising efforts don't stop over the festive season and Will Smith will be raising money for our charity ON Christmas Day by setting himself a stretching challenge of cycling 277 miles (a mile for every day that's passed from 23rd March to Christmas Day).
Will is using the Zwift online cycling platform, and completing the challenge on his turbo trainer, aiming for an average 20mph with regular breaks and splitting the ride up into several sections. He'll allow for food breaks and a change of kit every 70/80 miles and setting a time of around 14 hours to complete the 277 miles!

Will is hoping he'll burn off an excess of 8000 calories, so he'll be burning off his Christmas dinner and any Christmas treats consumed during the day too.

Will said: "Given that Christmas is going to be a very different entity this year and many will find it difficult, I've decided to try and make a difference to people's lives and mental health, doing what I enjoy doing, and what has a positive effect on my mental health, riding my bike.

Everyone's mental health has been affected in some way shape or form since lockdown first occurred back on the 23rd March, which is why I feel it important to do what I'm going to attempt, a mile for every day that's passed from 23rd March to Christmas Day a mile for every day that's passed from 23rd March to Christmas Day."

Will has already raised 62% of this fundraising target and hopes to smash that and raise even more for our charity.
