When you are living through a challenging or anxious time, family and friends may sympathise, but they don’t always know what to say or the best way to help. That is where a Support Group can be invaluable.

North Staffs Mind provide a range of Support Groups (free to access) that are designed to bring people together who are dealing with similar difficult circumstances. They offer a safe place where you can get information that’s practical, constructive and helpful. They provide encouragement, and you will also earn more about coping with your problems through shared experiences by talking to others who are facing similar challenges.

There are 4 main benefits of a Support Group:

Learn better coping strategies

At a support group, you will learn new coping skills from people who have found success using them first-hand. You might learn helpful tips that you have not considered before that can help you set healthy boundaries and function better.

Grow through shared experience

At a support group, you can get things off your chest. Sharing your own experiences  with a group can help ease your emotional burden and feelings of isolation. You will also gain valuable insight about how others are dealing with similar issues.

Focus on self-care

At a support group, you might learn to feel better about yourself. This boost in self respect can help you to feel mentally and physically stronger, thus combat fatigue.

Maintaining a sense of hope

At a support group, you are around fellow support group members who are gaining a positive benefit. This in turn will help boost your own mood and sense of optimism, giving you the emotional reserve to realistically envision a better future.

In addition to our Support Groups, we also offer Drop In sessions where anyone can just come along and benefit from general support, advice, one-off interventions/strategies and signposting.
