Schools
Schools are an ideal base from which to provide early intervention mental health support.
At North Staffs Mind we believe that children need to learn to be happy, before they are happy to learn.
North Staffs Mind has been providing therapeutic support within a wide range of educational settings for over 15 years. Once a school has commissioned our service, we work together with staff, to identify students who may benefit from our services. Some of the most common issues we are presented with include: Anxiety, Low mood, Self Esteem, Family Relationships, Anger, Low level self- harm and suicidal thoughts amongst others. Our highly qualified counsellors use tried and tested interventions to improve student’s emotional health and mental wellbeing.
School-based interventions not only reduce pupil absenteeism and improve academic achievement, but it can also help the school by providing evidence to support their OFSTED report.
Students
1 to 1 Counselling
Counsellors offer an integrative approach to therapy ensuring that students get the support that is right for them. We offer rapid access to counselling which means your pupils won’t have to sit on a lengthy waiting list for support from external agencies. If your child has been referred into our service by their school, or you would like to know more about what we offer, please read our Parent/Carer information sheet.
Staff
Supervision / Support Sessions
Essentially, supervision is a non-judgemental, collaborative process that allows all education practitioners to feel supported and gain the opportunity to reflect on their practice, relationships, and the emotional demands of their role.
Whilst regular supervision for other wellbeing practitioners such as psychologists and social workers is mandatory, for those at the forefront of education it is not! It is understandable therefore that many schools may resist introducing this service due to dwindling budgets, but the benefits can be proven to far outweigh the risks and costs.
