Move it May 2024
Move it May!
A whole month dedicated to fitness to improve the mental wellbeing of our community!
With the weather getting warmer and the days getting longer, we encourage everyone to join us in improving their physical health to support their mental health. Studies show that there is around a 25% lower risk of depression for adults participating in daily physical activity. In June 2021, the John W. Brick Foundation released their “Move Your Mental Health Report”, which provides a scoping review of over 1,000 studies conducted over the last thirty years. The research cast a wide net, including studies on any variety of physical activity, exercise, or movement type and any mental health outcome published between 1990 and 2020. Out of 1,158 studies examined, 89% found a statistically significant, positive association between physical activity and mental health.
We understand the importance of reconnecting with each other. Meeting new friends and trying new activities is a wonderful way to improve your own mental wellbeing, as well as others. We encourage people to connect with others, being open about their emotions and wellbeing to support one another.
With that in mind, we are bringing back our “Move it May” campaign! Several gyms and organisations have joined up to run special and unique classes to encourage people to get up and start exercising and socialising! With several fundraising options, you can come and support North Staffs Mind to continue our work and provide more opportunities like this campaign and others to really support Staffordshire.
You can get up on your own of course, go for a run, a swim, or even just climbing stairs instead of using the lift. You can even do it with your friends! But we are offering many events you can be a part of. Take a look at our event list, click the link to get involved. Get up, get active, get healthy!
Whether it’s just a gym class, climbing a mountain or just walking your dog, Exercise has a marked effect on improving Mental Health, so join us for “Move it May”!
